Red Hat announced the settlement of patent litigation involving Firestar Software, Inc. and DataTern, Inc. They made an arrangement that protects not only Red Hat but also the larger open source community. Groklaw covers this point in more detail, saying this is "history in the making": "They settled a lawsuit brought against them in a way that licenses patents without violating the GPL."
