Arnoud Engelfriet is IT lawyer, blogger, patent attorney and partner at the Dutch firm ICTRecht legal services. While studying computer science in the early 90s, Arnoud and his student federation ran into some novel legal IT issues that made him choose a career in IT law instead of Java and PHP.

Arnoud's main responsibilities at ICTRecht include giving legal advice on
contracts, licensing and internet law in general. Open source licensing will be an important part of his new job. Although the firm is based in the Netherlands, using e-mail Arnoud can help clients all over the world. Feel free to contact Arnoud at arnoud@engelfriet.net to discuss the possibilities.

After graduation, Arnoud started as patent attorney at Philips in 1999. When his boss in 2002 asked what this "Lainux" thing was, he pointed out it was pronounced "Li-nux", at which point his boss appointed him expert on all things free and open. Subsequently he set up the Philips OSS policy and ran the licensing team ever since. The team has reviewed over 3,000 software packages. During his reign Philips joined the CE Linux Forum and founded the Open Invention Network.
