About Us

FOSSBazaar is an open community that was launched by HP and our founding partners Coverity, DLA Piper, Google, the Linux Foundation, Novell, Olliance Group, OpenLogic and SourceForge. As a workgroup of the Linux Foundation, we are dedicated to empowering individuals and organizations across the enterprise to understand the issues that exist with free and open source software (FOSS), the processes that can assist to properly govern the implementation and deployment of FOSS, and the tools that can be used to assist these efforts across the software lifecycle. The vision of FOSSBazaar is to serve as a gathering place to discuss, explore, share experiences and cooperatively solve issues related to FOSS governance.

In addition to this web site, the FOSSBazaar working group uses mailing lists and conference calls to communicate. If you would like to join these discussion, please sign up for our mailing list.

There are two Special Interest Groups (SIG) within FOSSBazaar at the moment that you may be interested in:

  • Software Package Data eXchange® (SPDX®): This effort is defining a specification to enable companies and organizations to share license and component information (metadata) for software package and related content with the aim of facilitating license and other policy compliance. Please visit the SPDX web site to find out how you can join this effort.
  • Governance Best Practices: this effort works in an open and collaborative fashion to define common practices in the areas of Open Source governance and use.
