Law.com recently published an article in which Edmund J. Walsh claims there are important downsides with the use of software under the GPL. This article was quite controversial and has prompted a number of replies: Aaron Williamson of the Software Freedom Law Center posted an interesting counterpoint and IT News published an article with the title "GPL: why can't a lawyer understand it?". This debate shows that there is still much confusion regarding the obligations set out in the GPL and other FOSS licenses.
